Website review: Repair Pal

Visit Repair Pal here at http://repairpal.com/

First impressions are important, obviously, and the clean, modern look of the site really gives a good one, especially if you’re looking for the ‘auto repair and maintenance’ that they offer. The navigation is clear and easy to use and it’s easy to see that they do all kinds of jobs, including water pump and timing belt replacements. Unfortunately for me, I don’t have a car so it’s not entirely clear what that means. But I do understand that they can help people find repair shops all over- whether it be Phoenix or Miami.

After a look at the w3 validator, it seems that the html code has 4 errors, which isn’t too many considering the amount that I often end up with when I begin to code a website. It seems like their errors are just from closing tags in the wrong order, an easy mistake. Maybe they should consider hiring me to code their next layout.. *cough*

The name ‘repair pal’ is fairly self explanatory, although maybe not quite as much as something like car repair would’ve been. The logo is quite simple, with a nice colour scheme, but the font is a little too like Comic Sans, which happens to be my least favourite font, well, ever. The images are nice and colourful, with none of them pixelated or of low quality, which is something that customers appreciate. I really like their favicon- the car with it’s bonnet open makes it obvious that it’s a repair site without even looking at the title.

The site has done quite well in having the logos of their partners displayed, which is something my ICT teacher is constantly telling us means that it is a reliable site. The navigation is really nicely coded, with the tabs changing smoothly at a click and the effective colour change when you hover over them.

I think it’s safe to say that if I came across repair pals and I actually had a car that needed repairing, I’d use it. But for now I’ll stick with what I know and rate the design and usability of the website with 4/5. Congratulations >.<

I’ve been asked to review this site and I have to say it gave me quite a good first impression. It’s got everything I normally look out for, clear text, a decent logo, a nice tabbed link system as well as a really nice colour scheme. The name is pretty self explanatory, they help you move house by taking all of your stuff to your new place; which we must all admit is pretty vital to move house.

However on the second look I noticed that the image of a women holding a box is slightly too stretch width ways, and little things like that bug me because she looks unnaturally wide. It’s not a very high quality picture either, it’s blurred and badly cut around the edges.

Content wise, the site seems to be up to standards- testimonials, contact details, explanations, and a nifty form that will give you a quote on how much they will charge you for their help.

Overall, I’d give the website 3/5.

i’m alive

a chicken wing gets hot when you turn it onĀ  – don’t ask.

Allured has been dead for a bit. There’s been some problems with the DNS and it’s had a lot of downtime, which really sucks. Hopefully the problems are all solved now and there will be no downtime- if there is, I guess I’ll have to move hosts. But I really don’t want to do that, because Georgina is a really nice, helpful host and she’s doing all she can to help us out.

Guys- please follow my twitter! @holycricket is feeling a little lonely with only 37 followers, although its rather call that I have Greg James, Scott Mills (both Radio 1 presenters) and a music artist Ironik following me. I think I’m going to try and get all of the radio 1 DJs to follow me, because that would just be amazingly awesome.

I have so much homework to do it’s unreal. At the moment, I have French, Maths, Geography, German and English to be getting on with. I probably shouldn’t be blogging but I feel I owe it to you guys after all the the problems lately.

There’s been a lot going on lately, mainly that my Mum left to go to Australia for three weeks on Friday. I’m really close to my Mum, so I already miss her a heck of a lot. I cried when we had to say goodbye, I still can’t believe I’m not going to see her or my snakes for three whole weeks. I’m lumbered with my Dad, who at the moment I really hate. Him and my step mum are treating us like we’re about 10 years old, they have made a list of ‘house rules’ we have to follow and stuck it on the kitchen door. It’s ridiculous.

Hopefully I’ll blog again soon, and I’m going to make some content and a new layout soon.. hopefully..

Welcome Back

Okay, I’ll admit it. I was really stupid. Somehow, I got confused with my FTP client and thought I was logging into my old domain, lovewish.info, which I wanted to delete the files off of. And I logged into this domain, and deleted almost all of my files. Luckily, I had a relatively recent backup so I could restore everything, but it does mean I’ve had about a day of downtime. I decided I would take the opportunity to finally switch to Wordpress and set about converting my current layout. I’ve just finished converting all of the pages, and I just have a couple more things to do before Allured is back to it’s perfect self. :D

The only problem is that I lost my old posts and any comments- so if you commented on my last blog and I haven’t replied, I’m sorry! I didn’t manage to save your comments. :( I’m hoping that you’ll all comment on this blog though.

I had my maths test today. It was easy enough, although I’ve already worked out one silly mistake that I have made. Who would have put that 7.5 divided by 15 was 0.9? Me, apparently. My calculator says that it’s 0.5. I spent all of last night revising, and the night before, which means I now need to tidy my room and catch up on the homework I haven’t done. Yay.. Tomorrow I have my ICT Key Skills exam, and on Thursday I have a German speaking exam and I have to perform my English speaking and listening piece. Busybusybusy. I’ve had to pretty much shut down all of my online activities, which sucks. I miss you guys! I miss facebook and tweeting and all of the other stuff I find the time to do.

I want to start a plog, but the problem is I don’t really have a camera. There’s one on my phone but I don’t particularly want to use that as I don’t have any memory and I think it’s like 0.5 megapixels or something crappy like that. I can use my mum’s, but she doesn’t like me using it and I don’t really want to steal it. It’s in my room at the moment, so I might try using it. I think, to begin with, I will plog at least once a week. If I decide to make a plog, anyway xD. I would buy a camera, but I’m saving my money for when I go on holiday with a friend later this year.
